Disney‘s governmental agency was swindled for nearly $722,000 in an email phishing scheme last year and the FBI is now taking over the investigation.
According to a sheriff’s report, the Orange Couty Sheriff’s Office referred this case to the FBI instead. Although this update was written in a report last month, the news was only released on July 11th, 2019.
This email phishing scheme began with an employee at the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Reedy Creek is the Disney-run government created by the state of Florida in 1967. This particular employee believed she was receiving emails from an approved landscaping vendor. She paid nearly $722,000 to this vendor.
Luckily, Reed Creek was able to recover nearly all of the money except for about $94,000. This information was released in a 2018 sheriff’s report.
The district has still not been able to recoup the nearly $94,000 according to John Classe. The loss was below Reedy Creek’s insurance deductible, therefore, no claim was submitted.
The sheriff’s office was told that this particular scheme was “purportedly linked to a larger nationwide investigation being conducted by multiple local and federal law enforcement agencies.”
Two men from Louisiana were arrested last year in connection with the phishing scheme case.
One of the men, Patrick Babila, is being held in the Caddo Correction Center on multiple charges such as three counts of illegal transmission of monetary funds.
The other man, Thadius Pugh, was bonded out of jail. There is no other update of him as of Thursday, July 11th.

Robert Downey Jr. May Return to the MCU as an A.I. Program. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who would be self-absorbed enough to upload a version of their consciousness into an Artificial Intelligence program for use in case of an untimely death?
First and foremost, we already have seen this sort of behavior in Professor Arnim Zola, who downloaded “his brain,” as he put it, into a computer system to oversee Hydra’s take over of S.H.I.E.L.D. long past the death of his human body. Another Marvel character may have been inspired to do the same thing, this time with much nobler intentions. That person? Anthony Edward Stark, better known as Tony Stark.
In Marvel Comics Ironheart series, Riri Williams, a young and talented engineer, builds her own Iron Man styled armor and catches the attention of Tony Stark himself. Stark saw William’s potential and talent and decided to send her a Stark A.I. to help her in her endeavors. Riri eventually takes up the mantle of Iron Man with her own moniker, Ironheart, after Tony is put into a coma.
Though Marvel has not stated any public plans to incorporate Ironheart into the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), the ground work may have been laid in Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Don’t worry! We won’t put any spoilers in here about the latest film, but after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home it would be easy to see how Tony could “return” as Artificial Intelligence. Possibly making an appearance down the line in either an Ironheart film or the Spider-Man franchise.
How would it work? Cinematically speaking, the A.I. would work similarly to J.A.R.V.I.S. and F.R.I.D.A.Y. but with some sort of hologram like how Tony appeared at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
Robert Downey Jr. is more than deserving of a break from filming and coordinating with Marvel Studios while he focuses on other projects and his family. As much as we would love to see RDJ return to the big screen, an early return can undermine Tony’s actions in Avengers: Endgame and take away from the future of the franchise.
As Marvel Studios has proven, nothing is final, and there are many ways Downey could return to the MCU. We hope he enjoys a well deserved break, and would love to see him return at a later date to help the young heroes rising on the horizon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In anticipation of Disney’s latest live-action film “The Lion King” Disney has released their newest Caring for Animals episode. This episode is all about Disney’s African lions. In this video Lori, an animal care expert at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, talks about what makes these magnificent animals so unique.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom animal experts like Lori are helping to care and protect the lions daily. With the media attention of Disney’s “The Lion King” film opening July 19th Disney is promoting their newest campaign “The Lion King: Protect the Pride” campaign.
What is the “Protect the Pride” campaign? Disney with support from the Wildlife Conservation Network’s (WCN) Lion Recovery Fund (LRF) hope to double the number of lions in the wild by 2050. Since the animated version of “The Lion King” hit theaters 25 years ago Africa has sadly lost half its lions. In fact, there are less than 20,000 lions remaining. Disney is committed to take action and you can help!
You can help “Protect the Pride” by getting everyone you know, all your family and friends, and getting to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney has said that for every guest who rides the Kilimanjaro Safaris Expedition at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida during opening week of “The Lion King” (July 19 – 25, 2019), Disney Conservation Fund will donate $2 (up to $350,000) to WCN’s LRF’s efforts to help double the number of lions across Africa by 2050.
You must have a valid park ticket to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to ride Kilimanjaro Safari. This is an amazing way to help do your part and “Protect the Pride”. We encourage everyone that’s able to head over to Animal Kingdom during those dates of July 19-25 and ride for the pride!
For more information on Disney’s “Protect the Pride” campaign visit Disney.com/LionKingProtectThePride.
All information including video and images are from Disney Parks Blog found here.

A team of more than 20 cast members have been working tirelessly to bring us the newest Disney chef-d’oeuvre down at Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort. They have brought together our favorite characters to make a new artistic statement that’s more than it appears on the surface.
The Manager of Resort Enhancement, Phil Rhan, states that it was “inspired by anamorphic art installation” -Disney. The creative minds in charge of designing these garden scenes pulled inspiration from other public parks around the world. Their use of bold colors is a signature move at the resort, not to mention a key reason people are attracted to the outdoor space of the Downtown District.
What makes these pieces really unique, however, is the use of flowers to achieve the desired outcome. For example, Mickey and Minnie are surrounded by their staple red and yellow at an outdoor picnic, while Daisy finds herself amidst her namesake daisies. Visitors will also find Donald Duck chasing his hat on a windy day, Pluto guarding his yard from two familiar chipmunks (Chip and Dale, anyone?), and Goofy slipping on some ice cream. More than 40 varieties of living plants have been brought together to create these living tapestries.
The way that the Disney characters are situated makes this an interactive opportunity for guests. Components are scattered to create different perspectives depending on where the visitor stands. To see it all come together with the character completely unified, one only needs to stand on Mickey’s shoe prints. Voilà! A perfect shot for Instagram.
If you are planning to be in Disneyland in the near future, be sure to schedule in a stop at Downtown Disney District. The displays don’t last long, and this is one you won’t want to miss!

Artists young and old, talented and challenged unite! Disney World has brought back the Animation Experience which allows guests to draw a popular Disney character. These sessions are free and lead by patient animators.
Upon entrance, you receive a pice of animator paper and a pencil. The animator reveals which character you will be drawing. Mine was Timon. Then there is a short video about the animal who inspired that character; in this case a meerkat. This was a nice educational touch for being at Animal Kingdom. The teacher works through the character drawing step-by-step encouraging all guests along the way.
When you finish up you sign your artwork just like a real artist would. This class was a lot of fun and only a little challenging. Plus you get a rubberband to take your artwork home! In the future, there will be many characters drawn in these sessions but from now until July 19 the focus will be on characters from the Lion King. You can participate multiple times during a day if you’d like since they seem to rotate characters.
All classes take place in the recently re-opened Rafiki’s Planet Watch. You can catch the train to here right next to the Kilamanjaro Safaris. This is a wonderful free activity (in the air conditioning) to add to your next trip to Animal Kingdom.

Disney is canceling its red carpet premiere of Descendants 3 in honor of Cameron Boyce. Instead, they will be donating to a charity that was close to Boyce’s heart, the Thirst Project. This organization’s focus is to bring clean drinking water to places where there is none. Cameron was passionate about this cause and was active in fundraising for this organization before his death, raising over $30,000 for Eswatini.
Although the Descendants 3 red carpet premiere will be canceled, it’s Disney Channel August premiere will be dedicated to Boyce. You will be missed Cameron Boyce but your positivity will live on.
