Another Lunar New Year, another celebration at the Disney Parks! It’s the Year of the Dog, which means we’ll be spending a lot of time with Pluto and Goofy—and of course, dynamic duo Mulan and Mushu—at Disney California Adventure’s annual Lunar New Year festival.

The magic of this multicultural extravaganza continues until February 18, but we couldn’t wait! We already took a visit to Disney California Adventure to check out the festivities, and haven’t been able to stop reminiscing about the myriad sights and sounds ever since. We captured several pics to keep the memories alive—take a look:imageFirst things first: our Lunar New Year ears are coming out to play!imageimagePluto, Mickey, and Minnie looked extra dapper in their special Lunar New Year attire as they warmly greeted us amidst the welcoming red and gold lanterns and brightly lit arches.imageLook who we ran into!imageimageOur favorite partners in crime: the powerful, the pleasurable, the indestructible Mushu—and our one and only Princess Mulan—hosted the unforgettable “Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession.”imageimageimage

We were treated to a graceful performance by fan dancers, dragon dancers, umbrella dancers, and martial artists—all dressed in traditional garments rich in color.image

We were thoroughly impressed by the GuGu Drum Group of Shanghai! Their lively performance—which you can catch during one of the six sessions during the day—allows them to tell their stories through music and rhythm. imageimageWe obviously couldn’t end the day’s festivities without getting a taste of the food! We tried a few delicacies ourselves: purple sweet potato macarons, sweet red bean and raspberry jelly, and egg tart dessert. Yum! You can also find food inspired by Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures at three Asian marketplaces during the celebration, on top of a Lunar New Year menu at Paradise Garden Grill.imageimageWe didn’t forget to pick up some commemorative shirts and collectibles, inspired by the cultures of East Asia. The Pluto pin is our favorite!

Before the night ended, we marveled at “Hurry Home”—Lunar New Year Celebration,” a dazzling nighttime water show at Paradise Bay that took our breath away! Preceding “World of Color” every night during the Lunar New Year celebration, “Hurry Home” consists of a moving musical score and spectacular lights accompanying a story of Mulan, Mushu, and a little lantern.

imageAfter our hearts and tummies were full from the eventful celebration, Chip and Dale bid us farewell. It was hard to leave, but we’ll be back next year!
